Ramblin' Rolls
YOU WILL NEED:
1 1/2 CUPS WARM WATER
1 TABLESPOON INSTANT YEAST
2 TABLESPOONS SUGAR
2 TABLESPOONS SOFTENED BUTTER
1 TEASPOON SALT
4 CUPS ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
2-3 TABLESPOONS MELTED BUTTER
SPRINKLE OF SEA SALT
Heat the water until lukewarm (think baby bathwater temp). If it’s too cold it won’t activate the yeast, too hot and it will die. Remove water from heat and add to sugar and yeast. Mix, cover and put in a warm place for five minutes or so. You will know the yeast is active and ready to go when it’s bubbly and foamy.
Once ready, combine the yeast, butter, salt, and flour. Mix until dough is only slightly sticky and pulls away from the bowl. You may have to add a bit of flour (just a tablespoon at a time) at this point to get it just right. Knead for an additional 4-5 minutes until it is smooth.
Form dough into a ball and place into a large oiled bowl. Cover and place in a warm place for 20 minutes. It should roughly double in size.
Preheat oven to 400F. Oil or line a 8x8 baking pan with parchment paper.
Punch down the dough and divide into 9 equal parts. As you can tell from the picture, this will give you giant rolls. You can use a larger pan and make smaller rolls if you like! You may just need to adjust the cooking time. Roll each piece into a ball shape and place in your pan. Sometimes mine touch and sometimes they don’t, it seems to work out either way.
Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sea salt. Cover and let rise another 15 minutes.
Bake 15 minuets or until they are golden brown and your house (or campground) is smelling delicious!
Remove and brush with additional butter if desired. Try not to eat them all at once!
Enjoy and Carey On!
